Often confused with herb-Robert (Geranium robertianum). The purple cranesbill differs from this by the shorter petals (5-9 mm instead of 10-13 mm), the yellow anthers (reddish brown in G. robertianum) and the glossier leaves. It is much rarer in the territory than this and grows especially in railway areas. It was particularly frequent in the Porto Ceresio railway station during the time when it was out of service due to the construction of the new Stabio – Arcisate railway.
