On this site some aspects of the flora of province of Varese are presented. The province of Varese is located in northern Italy and is part of the region of Lombardy. It is surrounded by the italian provinces of Como, Milano and the swiss canton Ticino. In the west the border is represented by the Lake Maggiore and the river Ticino, which divide it from the region Piemonte.
The province of Varese has a considerable biodiversity, with around 1500 species of vascular plants on a surface of about 1000 km2. The vegetation is temperate-submediteranean in the lower parts and subalpine in the high parts around Valle Veddasca. The altitude of the territory extends between 100m in the plain and 1750m north of Monte Lema.
